Courses & Classes
Turning is one of the fundamental woodworking skills at risk of being lost with the rise of automated machines geared towards mass production. John intends to pass on the wealth of knowledge he gained throughout his 50 years as a carpenter to a new generation of turners who can develop their skills and breathe new life into the craft.
It’s recommended that beginners start with the basics course, which will provide them with the core knowledge needed to become a skilled turner, like basic cuts and sharpening.
Once students have completed the basics course, they can continue to take classes, which will be curated to meet individual needs and interests.
Classes will be held one-on-one in Chepachet, Rhode Island.
The Basics $200
While the possibilities within turning are endless, we all have to start somewhere. The basics consist of four sessions, with workpieces and tools provided. Over four sessions, students will learn how the lathe functions, and how to set up a workpiece and turn it into something.
Intro to Bowls $200
Like the basics course, bowl turning will consist of four sessions to familiarize students with the techniques and tools needed to turn a bowl. While it’s still recommended that anyone just learning on a lathe start with the basic skills, this course is excellent for those curious about turning or exploring woodworking.
Classes will be held one-on-one in Chepachet, Rhode Island.
